Red Sand Project

Recognizing the need for more awareness around human trafficking, we created Red Sand Project—a participatory artwork that uses sidewalk interventions, earthwork installations, and convenings to create opportunities for people to question, connect, and take action against vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking and exploitation. Installations and events have taken place in all 50 United States and in more than 70 countries around the world, and the project has engaged over 1.5 million people.

NETA

During the height of the humanitarian crisis at the US-Mexico border, Stardust supported Families Belong Together and the National Domestic Workers Alliance in coordinating efforts to stop family separation. We recognized that the burgeoning Families Belong Together movement would need art and visuals for its work, and partnered with NETA—a bilingual, multimedia platform that amplifies the voices of border residents in the Rio Grande Valley—to create a call for artists to “visualize the resistance” against the government’s discriminatory and oppressive policies.

Target Studio for Creative Collaboration

We partnered with the Target Studio for Creative Collaboration, a platform that supports ambitious collaborations between artists and researchers at the University of Minnesota, making university resources available to the Twin Cities’ artists, and the creative powers of artists available to academic researchers. Together, we established a Collaboration Incubator: an initiative to support innovative ideas for creative collaboration at their nascent stages. Artists in residence at the Collaboration Incubator focus on issues of gender equity, immigration, incarceration and trafficking of Native American women, and foster care.

For Freedoms

Serving as a nexus between art, politics, commerce, and education, For Freedoms aims to inject the anti-partisan, critical thinking that fine art requires into the political landscape through programming, exhibitions, and public artworks. We supported For Freedoms’ 50 State Initiative, recognizing the importance of this platform for creative civic engagement, discourse, and direct action.

Level Forward

We believe that an essential part of enabling full social participation is ensuring accurate and diverse representations of marginalized voices, and achieving meaningful diversity and inclusion behind the scenes in the production of media. As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion in media and storytelling, we invested in Level Forward, a new breed entertainment company committed to innovation and inclusion throughout all creative and business processes. Producing a diverse array of media, Level Forward integrates its commitment to social impact at every stage of its process by challenging exploitation, championing diverse storytellers, and building long-term partnerships with community-based organizations.

Wassaic Project

We committed to a multi-year partnership with the Wassaic Project, anartist-run arts organization located in Wassaic, New York that is home to a year-round artist residency program, art exhibitions, music festivals, and art education programs for kids, teens, and adults. Key to our partnership was a commitment from the Wassaic Project to research and implement practices to increase representation of people of color in its programs. Together, Stardust Arts and the Wassaic Project are working to identify and strengthen recruitment pipelines, enabling a more diverse array of artists to access and participate in the Wassaic Project’s programming and resources.
